Chicxulub Crater Museum

Sixty-six million years ago, an asteroid roughly ten kilometres wide struck the shallow sea at what is now the port of Chicxulub, excavating a crater 180 kilometres across, igniting the sky, and ending the reign of the dinosaurs along with three-quarters of Earth's species. The crater is invisible today - buried under a kilometre of limestone, betrayed only by the Ring of Cenotes tracing its rim - which makes the museum the way to stand at ground zero and grasp it. The crater itself offers nothing to see outdoors - the museum is the experience, and its style is theatrical-educational rather than research-austere. Spanish leads the interpretation with English support. Children rate it higher than skeptical adults expect.
