Dhangethi is a village island in South Ari Atoll of a few hundred people, historically a trading and boatbuilding place, and it is quieter than the surf and whale shark islands around it. A bikini beach is set aside at one end and the house reef is reachable from shore. It sits close enough to the whale shark zone that boats go out from here too, and the village has a mosque with a coral stone history.

When to go

Local island rules on dress and alcohol apply outside the designated beach. There is very little to do beyond the water. Ferry schedules are limited and slow.
