KLCC Park occupies about twenty hectares on the site of the old Selangor Turf Club racecourse, laid out as part of the Petronas development and designed by Roberto Burle Marx, the Brazilian landscape architect whose Copacabana pavements and Rio parks defined a whole approach to tropical planting; he died in 1994 with this among his last commissions and it was completed by his studio. The design uses a curved lake with a fountain that runs to a schedule, sinuous paths, and planting weighted towards indigenous Malaysian species, with a jogging loop, a children's playground and a wading pool. What most people come for is the view: the park is where you stand to photograph the Petronas Towers whole, particularly after dark when the fountains are lit and running.

What you actually see

  • A Burle Marx landscape - among the Brazilian designer's last commissions.
  • The Petronas Towers whole - the standing point for the full-height photograph.
  • A lake and scheduled fountains - the water show running through the evening.
  • Indigenous planting - Malaysian species weighted through the beds.

When to go

All year; after dark for the towers and fountains. Two hours.

Honest expectations

The photo spots are crowded every evening. It is hot and exposed in the middle of the day. Fountain shows run to a timetable; check it or you will miss them.

Nearby

The Petronas Towers, Suria KLCC mall and Aquaria are all adjacent.
