Subeng Dinosaur Footprints

At Subeng near Hlotse a stream has cut down to a bedding plane in the sandstone and exposed dinosaur footprints in it, several sets from different animals crossing the same surface, including both three-toed carnivore tracks and broader prints. Water runs over them, which shows them up but is also wearing them away. A local guide leads visitors down from the road and points out the sets.

When to go

September to April is the milder season. Low water shows the prints best. Summer storms raise the stream and cover them.

Things to know

After rain the stream can cover the prints entirely. The descent is steep and slippery. A local guide is effectively required to find the sets.
