Afra sits in a narrow valley west of Tafileh where hot mineral water rises from the ground and has been channelled into a set of pools among the rocks, at temperatures that run from bearable to genuinely hot. The road down is steep and winding. Bathing is segregated by hours or by pool depending on the day, and the site is used almost entirely by Jordanians rather than by foreign visitors.
