Getting thereOn the northwest coast in St Ouen; long flight of steps down from the car park
EntryFree

Plémont sits at the northwestern corner of Jersey below cliffs, reached by a long flight of steps from the car park, and the beach only exists at lower tides: at high water the sea covers it entirely. When it is out, caves cut into the cliffs at the back can be walked into and a waterfall comes down the rock at one end. Tide tables matter more here than at almost any other beach on the island.

What you actually see

  • The caves - the openings at the back of the beach, walkable at low tide.
  • The waterfall - the stream coming down the cliff at one end.
  • The stairway - the long descent from the clifftop car park.
  • The tidal beach - sand that disappears entirely at high water.

When to go

May to September is the season, but the tide governs everything: check tables before going. Low water exposes the caves. The beach vanishes at high tide.

Honest expectations

People get cut off by the tide here and it is a real risk; the caves flood. The stairway is long and steep. Facilities are a seasonal café at the top.

Nearby

Grosnez Castle is south, and Grève de Lecq is east.
