The Manx Coast and Glens

The Isle of Man is ringed by some of the most beautiful and varied coastline in the Irish Sea, best explored along the Raad ny Foillan, the Way of the Gull, a long-distance path that traces the entire island shore. Along its route unfold dramatic sea cliffs alive with seabirds, hidden coves and sandy bays, the tidal islet of the Calf of Man with its seals and birdlife at the southern tip, and the pretty village of Port Erin. When to go

May to September brings the mildest, driest weather and long days for walking the coastal path and glens, when wildflowers and seabirds are at their best; spring and early autumn are quieter and still lovely. The glens are especially green and shady in the warmer months.

Honest expectations

The Manx coast is best enjoyed on foot in fair weather, and the Irish Sea climate can bring wind and rain at any time of year, so walkers should come prepared. As a beautiful, varied coastline of cliffs, coves and wooded glens, threaded by a fine coastal path, though, the Manx shore is a genuine delight for lovers of walking and nature.
