Faxi, also called Vatnsleysufoss, drops only about seven metres but spreads across the full width of the Tungufljot, so it reads as a broad curtain rather than a plunge. It sits a few minutes off the main Golden Circle road and most coaches pass it, which makes it the quiet stop on a busy route. A salmon ladder is built into the rock on one side - a stepped channel letting fish climb past the fall - and the river below is fished in season. A restaurant sits at the car park, and a short path leads down to the water's edge.

Honest expectations
After Gullfoss this looks small, and that is a fair reaction - visit it before, not after. The car park charges. The path to the water is muddy after rain. There is little to do beyond looking.
