Ladies' Market

The Ladies' Market runs for about a kilometre along Tung Choi Street in Mong Kok, where several hundred stalls are set up in the roadway each afternoon and stay open late, selling clothing, bags, phone accessories, toys, luggage and souvenirs under strip lighting between the tenement blocks. The name comes from its original stock of women's clothing, though it long ago spread to everything. Prices are asked high and haggling is expected, roughly starting at half of what is quoted. The surrounding streets carry the same character in different goods, with the sneaker street, the goldfish market and the flower market all within walking distance.

When to go

Year round, from about midday to late evening; it is at its fullest after dark. One to two hours. Weekends and holidays are extremely crowded.

Honest expectations

Almost everything is mass-produced and the same across every stall. Quoted prices for visitors are inflated and haggling is unavoidable. Crowds are dense and pickpocketing happens. Counterfeit goods are common and buying them carries risk.
