Port-Salut

The road southwest of Les Cayes ends its bends at Pointe-Sable: Port-Salut's signature beach, a gold ribbon running palm-lined for kilometres with water that stays warm, clear and mostly surfless - the south coast arranged for wading, floating and the important business of choosing between fish shacks. Weekends bring music and Les Cayes families; weekdays leave the strand to fishermen hauling seines and the occasional visitor walking the full length because it invites exactly that. Small hotels behind the palms keep the overnight simple, and sunset performs over the Caribbean nightly, on schedule.

When to go

December to April is the dry, bright season; weekdays for near-solitude, weekends for the social hum. The sea stays swimmable essentially always.
