Kumu Falls

Kumu Falls drops through forest in the Kanuku foothills a short drive from Lethem, and the walk in from Kumu village takes around half an hour along a creek. The water comes down in a series of steps into pools that are cold and deep enough to swim in, which is the reason most people come. It is the easiest waterfall to reach in the Rupununi and a regular weekend trip from Lethem.

When to go

May to August, in the wet season, gives the strongest flow. September to April is drier with easier access but less water. Weekends bring visitors from Lethem.

Practical notes

The flow drops considerably late in the dry season. The path is muddy and slippery after rain. A community fee is charged at the village and a guide is usually expected.
