Nzérékoré

Nzérékoré is the largest city of Guinée Forestière, the forested southeast, sitting close to the borders with Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire in country that is greener and wetter than the rest of Guinea. Its market is large and draws from all three sides. The city is the base for reaching Ziama, Bossou and Mount Nimba, and the culture here is Kpelle, Kissi and Guerzé rather than Fulani or Malinké. It is one of the largest cities in Guinea.

Nzérékoré, also written N'Zérékoré, ranks third among Guinea's cities by population, behind Conakry and Kankan, and is the capital of Nzérékoré Prefecture. It lies approximately 570 km southeast of Conakry. The population was put at 316,065 in July 2025. Besides its market, the city is known for silversmithing. The wet season is long, running from March through November, and the city receives roughly 1800 mm of rain a year. In the three dry months the gap between day and night temperatures widens, with average highs around 33 °C. January averages 14.2 mm of rain.
