Narsarsuaq exists because of an airfield: the Americans built Bluie West One here in 1941 as a staging post for aircraft crossing to Europe, choosing a site with a long straight fjord approach, and the runway is still the main gateway to south Greenland. A few dozen people live here. A museum covers the base and the region, and the Flower Valley walk and the ice cap viewpoint above the settlement are the main excursions.

When to go
June to September is the season. Flights are weather dependent and delays are routine. Winter service is much reduced.
Honest expectations
It is a transit point rather than a destination and there is little in it. Weather delays to flights are frequent and can last days. Accommodation is limited and expensive.
