Travemünde

Travemünde has been a sea-bathing resort since 1802, among the oldest on the German Baltic, with a promenade, a casino and a beach of about four kilometres. The Passat, a four-masted steel barque built in 1911 for the nitrate trade around Cape Horn, is moored across the river at Priwall as a museum ship; she was one of the Flying P-Liners and one of the last commercial sailing cargo vessels, retired in 1957 after a sister ship was lost. The lighthouse of 1539 is the oldest on the German Baltic coast. The Travemünder Woche sailing regatta fills the harbour each July.
