Nyonié is a private concession on the coast south of Libreville where savanna, forest and beach meet, reached by a boat across the estuary and then a drive across the grassland, and it is the easiest place in Gabon to see forest elephants and buffalo in the open, because the animals come out of the forest onto the savanna and the beach in the late afternoon. Trips run as packages from the capital over two days.

When to go
June to September is the long dry season and the best for animals in the open. The rains make the drive difficult. Trips run as two-day packages.
Honest expectations
Access is only as part of a package and cannot be arranged independently. It is expensive for what is a two-day trip. Wildlife sightings are good but not guaranteed.
