The Fourgassié cascades are not high, a series of low falls and slides where a creek comes down over smooth rock in the forest off the Kaw road, but they are within an hour of Cayenne, easy to reach and easy to sit in, which is exactly what people use them for. Shallow pools spread between the rock sheets and families settle in for the afternoon with cool boxes. The forest closes over the whole site.

When to go
July to November is the dry season with clear water and easy rock. After heavy rain the creek rises fast and the rock becomes dangerous. Weekends are busy with Cayenne families.
Honest expectations
The falls are modest and anyone expecting a spectacle will be disappointed. Weekends get crowded and littered. The rock is extremely slippery in places even when dry.
