Nhlangano

Nhlangano is the main centre of the Shiselweni region in Eswatini's south, a town in rolling hill country a short way from the South African border. Its name means the meeting place, from a meeting between King Sobhuza II and King George VI held here in 1947. It serves the farming country around it with a market and shops and functions mostly as the junction for the southern roads. A casino operated here for years drawing visitors across the border, and the town still carries some of that infrastructure.

When to go

Year round. Winter mornings in the southern hills are cold. Summer afternoons bring heavy rain.

Honest expectations

There is very little for a visitor and the town functions as a base and a junction. Accommodation is limited. Most of the interest is in the country around rather than in the town.
