Torvehallerne

Torvehallerne is Copenhagen's glass-and-steel food market by Norreport, two bright halls holding some sixty stalls of fresh produce, fish and cheese alongside counters serving gourmet smorrebrod, coffee, porridge, tacos and more. It is the city's place to browse fine ingredients and graze from many kitchens in one lively space. The halls opened in 2011 on Israels Plads, a square that had been the city's wholesale vegetable market until the 1950s and then spent decades as a car park, and the market was built explicitly to bring food trading back to it. The two halls are divided roughly by trade, with raw ingredients on one side and prepared food on the other, and the open space between them holds additional stalls in the warmer months.
