Resov Waterfalls

The Huntava, a small stream in the Nizky Jesenik, meets a band of hard slate and phyllite and has cut a narrow gorge some hundred metres deep through it, dropping in a series of cascades and pools with the largest fall around ten metres. It is the largest waterfall complex in this part of Moravia. A marked trail descends into the gorge and follows the water on steps and small bridges, and the rock walls are dark, wet and mossy with the stream loud in the confined space. On the rim stands a formation called Panenska skala, the Maiden's Rock, with a legend attached about a girl who threw herself from it, which is the usual accompaniment to a gorge of this kind. Flow is heavily seasonal - impressive in spring meltwater and after rain, and reduced to a trickle in a dry summer.

• A hundred-metre slate gorge - dark wet walls with the stream loud between them.

April to June for flow. Half a day.

Honest expectations

Flow drops sharply in dry summers and can be minimal by August. The descent is steep and slippery. Winter access is often closed. The village has almost no services.
