Peyia Sea Caves

North of Coral Bay the coast turns to low white limestone that the sea has undercut into a run of caves, arches and collapsed roofs, with water surging in and out of them. Paths along the clifftop give the views down, and swimmers get into the water from ledges in calm conditions. The area is on the approach to the Akamas and the ground behind is scrub and low development, which keeps it feeling unmanaged compared with the beach a kilometre south.

When to go

April to June and September to November are the best; summer is very hot on the open rock. Calm days are needed to get in the water. Swell in winter makes the ledges dangerous.

Good to know

There are no railings and the cliff edges are undercut; people have been hurt here. Access to the water is over sharp rock with no steps. Parking is informal on rough ground.
