Cape Greco

Cape Greco is the blunt southeastern corner of Cyprus, a national forest park of low juniper and thyme on white limestone, ending in cliffs riddled with sea caves. The water below is exceptionally clear, which is why the cape is the standard boat stop from Ayia Napa and Protaras and why snorkelling and cliff-jumping happen here regardless of official discouragement. The Kamara tou Koraka natural arch, a bridge of rock over the sea, is the most photographed feature, though visitors are now kept off the arch itself after erosion concerns. A coastal path runs the length of the cape linking viewpoints, a small chapel and the caves, and the walk at either end of the day is the best way to see it.

When to go

Spring and autumn for walking, with wildflowers on the cape in March and April. Summer is hot with no shade and the boats are constant. Sunrise here faces east over open sea and is the cape's best hour.

Honest expectations

The cape sits between two of the island's busiest resorts, so in summer the water is full of boats and the paths are busy. Cliff-jumping at the caves is popular and has caused serious injuries; the depths and rocks are not consistent. The natural arch is fenced off from walking after erosion concerns, which surprises people who saw older photographs.
