Caracas Bay

Caracas Bay is a hook of land at the mouth of Spanish Water, largely undeveloped scrub with a long pier left from its time as an oil terminal, an eighteenth-century fort at the point and a set of dive sites along the drop-off that runs the length of it. The tugboat wreck sits in shallow water on the inner side. The peninsula is walked and cycled and gives a view back over the whole lagoon entrance.

When to go

Year round; mornings are calmest for diving. The peninsula has almost no shade at midday. Weekends bring local visitors.

Things to know

The peninsula is bare and hot with almost no shade. Facilities are minimal and vary with what is operating that season. The old industrial remains are an eyesore to some.

Tugboat Beach is on the peninsula, and Spanish Water is inland.
