Tuheljske Toplice has been used since at least the seventeenth century, when the springs and the black mineral mud that comes with them were already being used for treatment, and the modern complex is built on the same source: thermal water at around 33 degrees, indoor and outdoor pools, slides, saunas and a treatment wing that still uses the mud. It is one of the larger thermal resorts in northern Croatia and works year round, which is what most of these Zagorje spas exist for - they are as much local weekend facilities as tourist destinations, busy with families from Zagreb.

What you actually see

  • Springs used since the 1600s - water and the black mineral mud.
  • Water at around 33 degrees - indoor and outdoor pools.
  • A mud treatment wing - the traditional use, still running.
  • A year-round Zagorje resort - used heavily by Zagreb families.

When to go

Year round; winter is when the outdoor thermal pools are best. Half a day.

Honest expectations

This is a family water park as much as a spa, and it is loud and crowded at weekends and school holidays. Booking helps in peak periods. Medical treatments are a separate part of the operation.

Nearby

Kumrovec is west; Veliki Tabor and the Zagorje castles are north.
