Dzamonja Sculpture Park

Dusan Dzamonja was among the more internationally exhibited sculptors of the former Yugoslavia, working in welded steel, nails, wood and concrete on forms that are abstract but built up from repeated small elements, and he made his studio here above Vrsar in the 1970s. The park around it holds a large group of his sculptures set in open ground and among trees, with the sea visible beyond, arranged as he wanted them rather than to a curator's plan. He died in 2009 and the family has kept the park open. It is a working artist's ground rather than a museum, and the informality is part of the effect.

Honest expectations

Opening depends on the family and is not always predictable - checking ahead avoids a wasted trip. There are no facilities. The works are outdoors in all weather and some show it. Signage is minimal.
