Trou du Prophete

Trou du Prophete is a bay on Grande Comore's northern coast almost closed off by its headlands, with white sand and calm clear water inside, and the name comes from a tradition that a prophet or holy man took shelter here from a storm. The reef outside the mouth is good for snorkelling. There is nothing built on it and the track down from the road is rough. The bay was used as an anchorage long before it became a place to swim, because the headlands make it one of the few sheltered spots on this coast.

When to go

May to October is the drier and cooler season. The rains run November to April. Mornings are calmest for snorkelling.

Things to know

The track down is rough and needs care in a low car. There are no facilities of any kind. It can be litter-strewn after busy weekends.
