The reserve covers about three hundred hectares on the slope where the Bogota savanna drops away west, between roughly 2,100 and 2,700 metres, and it protects cloud forest that was scheduled for logging - the Convers family bought the land in 1990 and turned it into a private nature reserve instead. The forest holds oaks, tree ferns, moss, bromeliads and a substantial bird list including toucanets and tanagers, with cloud drifting through most days. Trails run down from the entrance at the top to a lodge at the bottom, which means the walk out is a serious climb; horses can be hired for the return. Camping and cabins are available. Being an hour from Bogota, weekends are busy.
