Getting thereOn the cliff near Flying Fish Cove; rope descent, guide required
EntryGuided access; equipment required

Daniel Roux Cave opens in the cliff not far from Flying Fish Cove and is reached by a short rope descent from above, ending in a chamber whose mouth looks straight out over the ocean. There are formations inside and the light from the opening reaches a long way back. Like the island's other caves it needs a guide and equipment, but the descent is shorter than Thundercliff.

What you actually see

  • The sea-facing mouth - the opening looking straight out over the water.
  • The formations - the limestone shapes inside the chamber.
  • The light - the daylight reaching back from the opening.
  • The short descent - a rope entry less demanding than the island's other caves.

When to go

May to November is the dry season and access is most reliable. Guided trips run on demand. Conditions inside change with the rains.

Honest expectations

A guide and rope equipment are required; this cannot be done independently. The descent is exposed even though it is short. Trips are limited and must be arranged ahead.

Nearby

Flying Fish Cove is below, and Tai Jin House is west.
