The Siniaka-Minia reserve covers wooded savanna in central Chad and holds a population of Kordofan giraffe, a subspecies reduced to a few thousand animals across its whole range, along with elephant, buffalo, roan antelope and a substantial bird list. The reserve came under active management in recent years after a long period of neglect, and buffalo have been translocated into it from Zakouma to rebuild its herds.

When to go
December to April is the dry season and the practical window. The rains from June make tracks impassable. Early and late in the day are best for game.
Honest expectations
There is essentially no visitor infrastructure and access requires permits, guides and a self-supported expedition. Numbers were badly reduced by poaching. Sightings are not guaranteed.
