André Félix National Park sits in the far northeast of CAR against the Sudanese border, established in 1960 over Sudanian savannah, wooded grassland and seasonal watercourses. It adjoins protected ground on the other side of the border. Very little management has reached it for a long time and wildlife numbers are far below what the park once held. It is among the least visited parks anywhere in Africa.

What you actually see

  • The Sudanian savannah - wooded grassland typical of the belt.
  • The seasonal rivers - watercourses that run only part of the year.
  • The border position - ground continuous with protected land beyond it.
  • The 1960 designation - a park established at independence.

When to go

December to March is the dry season and the only practical window. The wet season closes all access. Water is scarce in the late dry months.

Honest expectations

There is no infrastructure, no management presence to speak of and no visitor arrangements. Wildlife populations have fallen very substantially. This is not a park that can be visited in any ordinary sense.

Nearby

Birao is south, and Bamingui-Bangoran is southwest.
