Praia de Sao Pedro

São Pedro is a wide bay of pale sand on the southwestern corner of São Vicente, backed by bare brown hills with the airport runway behind them and a small fishing village at one end. The wind funnels through the gap between the hills and blows hard across the bay, which has made it a kitesurfing spot, and the same wind means the beach is rarely comfortable for lying on. Santo Antão stands across the channel.

When to go

November to May is the wind season for kiting. The bay is exposed year round. Aircraft pass low overhead on approach.

Honest expectations

Wind makes ordinary beach use unpleasant most days. Currents in the bay are strong. Aircraft noise from the runway behind is constant.
