The Meadows in the Sky Parkway climbs about twenty-six kilometres and one thousand five hundred metres of elevation from Revelstoke to near the summit of Mount Revelstoke, one of the few roads in the Canadian mountain parks that delivers subalpine meadow without a hike; a shuttle covers the last kilometre. The meadows flower from late July into August with lupine, arnica and paintbrush. Lower down, the Giant Cedars boardwalk runs through inland temperate rainforest, a rare ecosystem that exists here because of heavy snowfall rather than coastal fog, with western redcedar over five hundred years old.

What you actually see

  • The Meadows parkway - a road to subalpine flower meadows at 1,900 metres.
  • The Giant Cedars boardwalk - inland rainforest with 500-year-old redcedar.
  • The Skunk Cabbage boardwalk - a wetland walk with very large skunk cabbage.
  • The Columbia valley view - the river and Monashees from the summit area.

When to go

The parkway opens roughly late June or July, once snow clears, and closes in October. Meadows peak late July into August. Boardwalks are open longer but close under snow.

Honest expectations

The parkway's opening date varies by year and snow can delay it into July. Meadow bloom is a short window. The final section is shuttle-only in peak season.

Glacier National Park lies east; Revelstoke town is below.
