Métis Crossing

Métis Crossing sits on original river lots along the North Saskatchewan settled by Métis families from the 1890s, and it is the first major Métis cultural destination in Alberta, developed and run by the Métis Nation of Alberta. The narrow river-lot survey pattern, brought from the Red River, is still visible in the land. Programming covers the culture directly: Michif language, jigging and fiddle music, beadwork, trapping and traditional food, taught by Métis knowledge holders rather than presented as costume. A lodge opened in 2021, and a wildlife park holds white bison, elk and Percheron horses. Sky-watching domes were added for northern lights viewing.

What to expect

Programming runs on a schedule rather than continuously, so timing matters. The site is a working cultural centre, not a museum, and some activities require booking. It is a two-hour drive from Edmonton.
