Koro is built onto a rocky outcrop outside Bobo-Dioulasso, houses of stone and earth fitted between the boulders on several levels with granaries, shrines and a small mosque among them, and the position was chosen for defence. Guides from the village lead visitors up through the lanes to the top, where the plain opens out below. The community is Bobo and the village keeps a set of traditional practices alongside Islam.

When to go
November to February is the cool dry season. March to May is extremely hot on the exposed rock. Mornings are best for the climb.

A village guide is required and fees are collected. The climb is over rock and uneven. This is a lived-in village and photography needs permission.
