Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas

Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas runs along the waterfront in central Bandar Seri Begawan, opened in 2017 to mark the Sultan's fiftieth year on the throne, with a promenade, a golden crown sculpture, lawns and a viewing deck looking across the river to Kampong Ayer. It is where the capital walks in the evening. The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is visible along the water. The park replaced a stretch of working waterfront, and it was the first substantial public open space made in the centre of the capital.

History

The park grew out of the Sungai Kedayan Eco-Corridor project to revive the Kedayan River with flood works, environmental repair and new public space, and was first known as the Eco-Corridor Park. Building began in January 2016 under the 10th National Development Plan and finished eight months early, and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah opened it on 22 October 2017 for the golden jubilee of his accession, celebrated on 5 October that year (Wikipedia, Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas).

When to go

Year round. Evenings are when it is cool enough and busiest. Midday heat makes the open promenade unusable.

What to expect

There is little to it beyond walking and the view. No shade to speak of during the day. It is small and an hour covers it.
