Blue Hole Park and Tom Moore's Jungle
A reserve of mangrove, caves and collapsed sinkholes in Hamilton Parish, with a swimmable blue hole.

The Walsingham reserve, usually called Blue Hole Park with Tom Moore's Jungle behind it, is a tract of limestone honeycombed with caves and collapsed sinkholes, some flooded and connected to the sea, wrapped in mangrove and one of the last patches of Bermuda's original woodland. The Blue Hole itself is a flooded sinkhole deep enough to jump into. Tom Moore, the Irish poet, spent time here in 1804 and the calabash tree he wrote under is pointed out.

When to go
March to November is the most comfortable. Weekends bring local visitors. Hurricane season runs June to November.
Before you go
Paths are unmarked and confusing and it is easy to get turned around. The Blue Hole is unsupervised and the jump is at visitors' own risk. Mosquitoes in the mangrove are persistent.
