Alexandra Battery was built in the nineteenth century on the shore east of St George's, part of the chain of works defending the eastern end of Bermuda, and it stands now as an open ruin of gun positions and magazines that can be walked through freely. Below it is a small beach where the sea has worn glass from an old dump into smooth coloured pebbles, which is what most people come for. It is a named component of the UNESCO listing.

- The gun positions - the nineteenth-century emplacements on the battery.
- The magazines - the ammunition stores cut into the structure.
- The free access - an open ruin with no gate or charge.
When to go
March to November is the most comfortable. Sea glass is turned up after storms. Hurricane season runs June to November.
Things to know
Taking sea glass is discouraged and the beach has been picked over heavily. The battery is unrestored with no interpretation. There are no facilities.
