Inani is a section of the long Cox's Bazar beach about thirty kilometres south of the town, reached along the marine drive that runs between the hills and the sea, and it is quieter than the main strand with a wider stretch of sand and a scatter of dark rock and coral boulders that are exposed at low tide and covered at high, which is what distinguishes it visually from the rest of the coast. The hills come close behind and the setting is more open. It has been developed steadily with hotels and stalls and it is no longer the empty beach it was described as a decade ago, though it remains less crowded than Cox's Bazar itself. Swimming is possible but currents along this coast are strong.

What you actually see

  • Coral and rock boulders - exposed on the sand at low tide.
  • The marine drive - the road between the hills and the sea.
  • A wider quieter strand - more space than the main Cox's Bazar beach.
  • Hills close behind - the slopes running down toward the shore.

When to go

November to March. Half a day. Low tide exposes the boulders, so check times. Weekends bring crowds from Cox's Bazar. Sunset is the busiest hour.

Honest expectations

Development has grown fast and the beach is no longer quiet. Currents are strong and drownings happen along this coast. Litter is a serious problem. Vendors are persistent. Facilities are basic.

Nearby

Cox's Bazar is north; Teknaf lies south down the peninsula.
