Sweeting's Cay lies off the eastern end of Grand Bahama, a low island of a few dozen residents reached by a short boat ride from McLean's Town. It has a settlement of wooden houses, a school, a church and a dock, and the water around it holds blue holes, flats and patch reef that draw divers and bonefishermen. The population dropped sharply after Hurricane Dorian in 2019, which flooded the cay almost completely.

When to go
November to April is the dry season and calmest for the crossing. Hurricane season runs June to November and this cay is very exposed. Boats do not run in bad weather.
Honest expectations
The cay has not recovered from Dorian and the population is much smaller than it was; visiting means arriving in a place still rebuilding. There are no facilities for visitors and no accommodation. Everything is arranged informally at McLean's Town.
