Hoffman's Cay Blue Hole

Hoffman's Cay is uninhabited, in the middle of the Berry Islands chain, and a short track from the beach leads inland to a blue hole set in the limestone: a roughly circular pool of deep water in a rock bowl, with a ledge on one side people jump from and a rope for getting back out. The colour is dark blue in the middle and the walls drop straight down. It is a standard stop on boat trips through the Berries.

When to go

November to April is the dry season and calmest for boats. The water in the hole stays cool year-round. Trips depend entirely on sea conditions.

Practical notes

There is no supervision and no rescue: the exit is a rope or a scramble, and the walls are undercut in places. Jumping is at your own risk and people have been hurt. Access is by charter and there are no facilities anywhere on the cay.
