The Eumundi markets started in 1979 with a handful of stalls and grew into one of the largest in Australia, with several hundred sites filling the main street and the grounds under old fig trees every Wednesday and Saturday. The rules favour makers: a large share of stalls must sell what they produce, so the mix leans toward craft, timber, leather, plants, art and food rather than imported goods. Buskers play along the aisles, and the village pubs fill afterwards. Outside market days Eumundi is a quiet hinterland town of a few thousand people with a handful of cafés, galleries and a brewery, and the surrounding hills hold farms and small producers.

What you actually see

  • The maker stalls - hundreds of sites weighted toward locally made goods.
  • The fig tree grounds - shaded market aisles under old trees.
  • The buskers - live music through the market on both days.
  • The village - pubs, galleries and cafés in the main street.

When to go

Wednesdays and Saturdays, when the market runs from early morning to early afternoon; Saturday is much larger and busier. April to October gives the most comfortable weather. Arrive early for parking and shade.

Honest expectations

Parking fills quickly and shuttle buses run from outlying areas on Saturdays. Summer humidity under the tents is heavy. Outside market days there is very little happening in Eumundi. Prices reflect the handmade emphasis.

Nearby

Noosa lies east on the coast; Montville and Maleny are south in the hinterland.
