Salto Kama

Kamá Merú, usually called Salto Kamá, drops about fifty metres over a rock step just off the main road through the Gran Sabana, which makes it the most easily reached of the region's falls. A Pemón community runs the site with a camp, food and craft stalls at the top. A path leads to the lip for the view down, and a steeper one descends through gallery forest to the pool at the base, where the spray reaches across the rocks.

When to go
May to November has the strongest flow. December to April is drier and the fall is thinner but access is easier. Afternoons bring cloud and rain in the wet season.
Honest expectations
The descent to the base is steep, muddy and slippery. Craft stalls and fee collection at the top are persistent. It is a standard stop on tour itineraries and can be busy.
