EntrySmall fee

The Sangardak river drops around twenty metres over a broad rock face in a gorge in the Hissar foothills, not in a single column but spread across the whole width in threads and sheets over moss and travertine, so that the fall is wide rather than tall. Walnut and plane trees grow along the river below. A path descends from the road into the gorge, and teahouses operate beside the water in season.

What you actually see

  • The spread fall - water coming down in threads across a broad mossy face.
  • The travertine - the mineral deposits built up over the rock beneath.
  • The gorge - the walnut and plane trees along the river below.
  • The riverside teahouses - the platforms set out beside the water in season.

When to go

April to June has the strongest flow from snowmelt. The fall thins considerably by late summer. Winter closes the road.

Honest expectations

Flow drops a lot after June and the fall becomes thin. The descent path is steep and slippery. Facilities are seasonal teahouses and nothing else.

Nearby

Boysun is west, and Termez is south.
