Old Sturbridge Village
A recreated early 19th-century New England town built from relocated buildings, with working mills, farm and trades.

The village opened in 1946 and is not a preserved town but an assembled one: over forty buildings brought from across New England and arranged around a common to show rural life from the 1790s to the 1830s. Staff work the trades in period - a blacksmith, a cooper, a potter, a printing office - and the water-powered sawmill, grist mill and carding mill run. A farm is worked with the crops and methods of the period. The interpretation is third-person rather than role-play, so staff will answer questions about the present.

Not every building is staffed on a given day, especially midweek off season. It is an assembled village, not a preserved one. The site is large with a lot of walking. Aimed substantially at school groups and families.
