Lanikai Beach

Lanikai is about a kilometre of fine sand on the windward coast, protected by an offshore reef so the water is unusually calm and clear, facing the Mokulua islets a short way out - the pair of small islands that make every photograph of this beach recognisable. Both are seabird sanctuaries; landing is permitted on the larger, Moku Nui, with restrictions, and kayaks go across from Kailua. There are no public facilities at all here - no toilets, no showers, no lifeguard and no parking lot. Access is through a residential neighbourhood by narrow paths between houses. Erosion has narrowed the beach considerably.

There is no parking lot - street parking is restricted and enforced. No lifeguard and no toilets. The beach has eroded and is narrow at high tide. Consider Kailua Beach next door, which has facilities.
