The park opened in 1870 as a bathing beach on a sandspit reaching into Lake Erie and grew into a coaster park with a reputation among enthusiasts as the strongest collection anywhere - around sixteen at any given time, with the number shifting as rides are removed and built. Millennium Force in 2000 was the first complete-circuit coaster over three hundred feet. Top Thrill Dragster launched to 120 miles per hour in under four seconds and was closed after a 2021 incident, then rebuilt and reopened as Top Thrill 2. Steel Vengeance, a wooden structure with steel track, holds several records for a hybrid. The peninsula setting means water on both sides and wind that closes rides.

Honest expectations
Wind off the lake closes the tall rides regularly. Summer queues are very long without a fast pass, which costs a great deal. The season is short. Parking is charged.
