Dubai Frame

The Dubai Frame is exactly what its name says: a hollow gilded rectangle standing a hundred and fifty metres high and ninety-three wide in Zabeel Park, built so that from one side the view through it is the old city towards Deira and from the other the towers of Sheikh Zayed Road. Lifts run up one leg to a sky bridge across the top, part of whose floor is glass, and galleries in the base cover the city's past and a projected future.

What you actually see

• The sky bridge - a walkway across the top with a glass floor panel section.
• The two views - old Dubai on one side and the modern skyline on the other.
• The gilded cladding - the patterned gold-coloured skin covering the structure.
• The galleries - displays on the city's history and an imagined future.

When to go

November to April for comfortable weather; the queues are shortest early. Sunset slots book out first. Summer visits are indoors and air conditioned but the approach is very hot.

Honest expectations

Queues at peak times are long and the sky bridge is crowded. The glass floor panel is a short section and much filmed by other visitors. The lower galleries are thin and mostly a way of filling the visit.

Zabeel Park surrounds it, and Al Fahidi is north.
