Boztepe Cable Car

Boztepe is the hill that rises directly behind Ordu to around five hundred metres, and the cable car built in 2012 runs from the seafront to the top in a few minutes, climbing over the roofs of the city and the hazelnut orchards on the slope. At the summit are viewing terraces, restaurants and tea gardens, a paragliding launch that operates when the wind allows, and the view: the whole of Ordu below, the harbour, the coastline running away in both directions and, inland, the ridges of the Black Sea mountains. Cloud interferes often - this coast is humid and the hill catches it - so a clear day is worth taking when it comes. The city below is a hazelnut port with a nineteenth-century Greek church now serving as a museum, a seafront promenade and the fish restaurants that go with the trade. The plateau country behind, including Perşembe Yaylası, is a couple of hours up into the mountains.

When to go

May to October. Clear mornings give the best chance of a view - cloud sits on the hill often, and the ride is pointless in mist. It runs year-round weather permitting.

Honest expectations

The view is the whole attraction and cloud frequently removes it. The summit is developed with restaurants rather than wild. High wind closes the line.
