Hanuman Murti, Carapichaima

The Hanuman Murti at Carapichaima stands about twenty-five metres high and is among the tallest statues of the deity outside India, built in the early 2000s beside the Dattatreya Yoga Centre, a temple in South Indian style with carved gopuram towers and craftsmen brought from India to build it. It reflects the size and depth of Trinidad's Indian community, descended from indentured labourers brought from 1845 onwards.

What to look for

When to go

Year round; it is a working temple and services take priority. Divali in October or November is the busiest period. Mornings are quietest.

Practical notes

It is an active place of worship and dress and behaviour are expected to be respectful; shoes come off. There is little interpretation for outsiders. The surrounding area has few facilities.
