EntrySmall toll for the crossing

The bridge spans three hundred and forty metres across the Gummischlucht at about eighty metres above the stream, linking Sigriswil with Aeschlen on the far side - two villages that are close in a straight line and were a long walk apart round the head of the ravine. It opened in 2012, and while it is used as an attraction with a small toll, the purpose was practical: it completed a panorama walking route along the northern slope of Lake Thun and put the two communities within a few minutes of each other. The deck is steel with a mesh floor in places, so the drop is visible underfoot, and the lake and the Bernese Alps are in view for the whole crossing.

What you actually see

  • A 340-metre span - eighty metres above the Gummischlucht.
  • Two villages reconnected - Sigriswil and Aeschlen, minutes apart at last.
  • A mesh deck in places - the drop visible under your feet.
  • Lake Thun and the Alps - in view across the whole crossing.

When to go

April to November. Two hours.

Honest expectations

There is a toll to cross. The bridge moves and the see-through sections trouble some visitors. It closes in high wind and ice. Parking in Sigriswil is limited at weekends.

Nearby

The Justistal is above; Thun and Oberhofen are along the lake.
