Kivik sits at the centre of Swedish apple growing - the slopes above the Hano bay hold a large share of the country's commercial orchards - and the Applemarknaden has been held each autumn since 1988 over a weekend in late September. The set piece is the apple picture: a large mosaic built on a frame from tens of thousands of apples in different colours, made to a new design each year and standing through the weekend. Around it are stalls of fruit, cider, juice, jam and craft, orchard tours, and the Kiviks Musteri works nearby which presses juice and cider commercially. It is one of the busiest weekends of the Osterlen year.

Honest expectations
It is one weekend a year - dates change and must be checked. Traffic and parking are difficult. The village is small for the numbers it takes. Outside the weekend the orchards are private.
